Colleen Craig has worked in journalism, media and marketing for twenty-five years, beginning with Cherokee of California, an LA based manufacturer of shoes and apparel. As Assistant Director of Advertising and Public Relations—later Director—she collaborated with a four star agency on national campaigns and promotions, and created an award winning trade advertising campaign in-house for a new division of service shoes: the first utilitarian shoe to be seen as trendy. Her department expanded the company’s licensing program, from sunglasses to perfume, and the Cherokee brand became synonymous with hip Southern California beach culture, appealing to a wide demographic. She also launched a company newsletter for four hundred plus employees, an internal publication which she translated into Spanish, making Cherokee one of the first major manufacturers in Southern California with a bi-lingual publication.
Three years later she transferred to a public relations agency, Rommie Davis & Associates, where she supervised successful public relations efforts for apparel clients, including LA Gear, Karen Kane and North Beach Leather. She produced fashion segments on a seasonal basis for such shows as “Oprah,” “Good Morning America,” and “Today,” and created multi-media trade show presentations for clients that are still in use.
Additionally, Colleen has worked in the entertainment industry, both as a script writer and publicist, producing brochures, direct mail pieces and marketing collateral. These include television scripts for the Los Angeles Master Chorale, advertising pieces for Sony Entertainment’s television division, and developing the first internal CD for BMW/Germany, in collaboration with Stanford University, a guide to the future of design based on cultural trends. As a member of the Writer’s Guild of America, she worked on a variety of projects, from HBO research assignments, to Warner Classics films and Hallmark Hall of Fame stories. She has won numerous writing honors, as well as a national print award for her self-designed logo and business card.
From 2005-2007 Colleen worked as a marketing consultant for Venue, a high-end design showroom in St. Helena. As such, she created the company’s first ad campaign, and put together a yearlong series of sold out “Second Saturday Salons”: monthly gatherings featuring local fine artists and vintners, live music, and literary readings.
